Hairloss in Men and Women

The most personally disturbing time in a man or woman’s late twenties is not the feeling of failure, or success. Rather it’s the advent of  hair loss. Yes, in our teens, we gloried in our full heads of hair, luscious long, glossy locks and never having to care about what products we use or abuse our hair with.

Now, you shower and look down. You rinse your hair, running your fingers through your mass. And there you have it. Clogged drain. Strands upon strands in between your fingers. Distressing. And this phenomenon you tell yourself will pass, lasts and lasts.

The cause for hairloss amongst men and women do vary slightly. For men, it’s the dreaded term: Male Pattern Baldness. For women, it’s commonly known as hormonal imbalance. But here are some common reasons for the hair loss. Most are not permanent and therefore if you address these issues, you’ll find yourself regaining your true crowning glory!

1) Psychological reasons – most commonly known as stress. If you have any sudden or ongoing emotional stress, anxiety or trauma, you might find that you will have hairloss or thinning of your hair. This trend is not permanent and you will find that it stops as soon as the emotional stress does.

2) Physiological reason– the main hair producer hormone in our bodies is testosterone. But one of its derivatives, dihydrotestosterone (DHT) causes the hair follicle to shrink.

3) Hereditary factor – it’s true if you come from a family where one or two persons have suffered hair loss, you might too!

4) Hygiene – look. If your scalp isn’t healthy or clean, do you think your hair would want to live there? Keep it clean, fungus free, airy.

5) Medication – there are some drugs and especially radiation therapy that unfortunately causes either the halt of the hair growth phase of hair follicles or cause the hairs to shed at the same time.

6) Others– pregnancy. Hair pulling (caused by pulling your hair into a ponytail too often, or using a curling tong too tightly). Oil buildup (called sebum). Menopause. All these can also cause hairloss over time.

Now. I’m sure you’ve been able to identify with at least one of the above. For me, I was extremely distressed with the hairloss I encountered some months ago (the trend lasted a long time). Looking back, I can conclude it was a mixture of stress (I was going through a tough time at work), I had developed an oily scalp and I used a lot of curling tongs and ponytails (I had long hair). Since then, I’ve washed my hair with a special shampoo to clear the sebum at least twice a week (other times I wash with normal shampoo). I’ve cut my hair (so the loss isn’t so apparent!!).

But for those with more severe hairloss, till you can see the hair thinning, I recommend a combination of supplements, hair tonic and shampoos specially suited to keep the health of the scalp at optimum levels, increase the blood flow to the scalp (as to promote healthy function of follicles and roots) by using the laser haircomb. I’ve recommended this system to many people who have had quite severe hair loss (bald patches, visible thinning) and they have experienced regrowth you can’t imagine! So there IS a solution. And you have the power to alter your habits and do something about it! Remember! Your crowning glory remains with you only as long as you take care of it!

Baldness and your hopes to prevent it

Men are considered the strongest sex. If we mean force and physical power – yes, but if we take a look at men from psychosocial point of view – they are weaker than women. Men have lots of insecurities but they always hide them to seem strong. Should they really do it or should they let the world know it is human not to be steel-like persons. When we say the word “baldness” the thing that comes to mind is “60 year old man”. It isn’t clear why we always put this parallel between age and no hair on the head. Men get bald usually after 50 but who would have thought it would be a problem? Women always think that men are pretty comfortable with bald head. Surprisingly it is not true. There are men usually at young age that shave heads because they feel like doing it. It doesn’t always mean they go bald. Of course, there are situations in which men shave heads because bald of their hair is gone so the solutions remains to get rid of all what is left on the head. It is one of the most common types of baldness. Doctors call it pattern baldness. It can have a genetic background that comes with such symptoms as patches on the head and receding hairline. Women feel attracted to bald men. It is a known fact. They always link baldness with brutality and that definitely turns them on. Baldness can have various reasons behind itself. It can be of a psychological background as well physical. People that have hair issues always feel insure. It hurts their self-esteem and causes depression. The self-image is ruined and confidence is damage up to the point that some men prefer to stay indoors or put a baseball hat on when they go out. This is a nice way to cover your problem but this definitely isn’t a solution. The solution will include treatment that requires dedication and time. When you make an appointment with the doctor you usually think his advices and prescriptions will lead to an immediate result. Unfortunately, you can’t grow your hair back in one night. There are medications that take time to show results but one should not drop the idea before he have it enough time to prove itself working. Propecia is the name of the drug that deals with the baldness problems. It usually comes with a prescription and it is brilliant and effective against pattern baldness. The original manufacturers of Propecia are Merck & Co. What the drug usually does it stop the baldness and works towards the hair growth. Usually men are not allergic to Propecia but everybody is individual. If you feel like the medication affects your body or your hair somehow – consider it your possible side-effect. Just like any other strong medication the pill gas precautions. The baldness remedy is not safe for anyone but men that suffer from baldness. Women and especially pregnant women are forbidden to consume this drug. You should keep your kids away from the pill. Before the doctor prescribes this medication, you need to go through a good examination. If the specialist decides that this drug is exactly what you need – you will get a prescription that you will be eligible to use in any pharmacy near you. If for some reason your doctor decided that you are better off with another type of treatment – you have to trust his decision. But remember not to take Propecia without doctor’s permission. You are being granted another chance with your hair… will you take it?

Hair Loss and Vitamin Deficiency

Hair loss eventually affects up to 60% of men and 25% of women. Most often, the cause is genetic. Inheriting the genes for baldness, medically known as Alopecia, does not mean that one is guaranteed to become bald. The process can be halted by finding the right hair loss treatment.

There are a number of natural herbal and oil remedies, most of which are topical, that is, they involve applying solutions directly onto the scalp with the effect of opening up closed follicles and enhancing the chance of hair production. These have varying degrees of success, dependent upon the individual.

There are many natural hair loss treatment products available on the market. Many prescription drugs offered by doctors have unwanted side effects. Some of the more well known also have sexual side effects for men. Not only are these effects undesirable, but it can be embarrassing being seen entering a hair loss treatment clinic. The problem is even worse for women who are experiencing thinning hair. The loss of a woman’s hair often feels like a loss of femininity, and there are very few traditional drugs which are effective at stopping hair loss in women.

In fact, any deficiency of vitamins, minerals or protein can cause weakness, fragility and hair loss.Iron deficiency in women has been shown in several clinical studies to be a frequent cause of thinning hair in non-menopausal women, 35 to 50. Losing your hair is one of the concerns shared by many of us in today’s society, by males and females alike.

Finding The Best Hairloss Products Can Be An Expensive and Confusing Task

Admitting that I have tried over 30 different hairloss products is a bit embarrassing not mention the outlandish costs involved. My first experience was with a mail order shampoo some years before I started my first natural health website. This product had a flashy add campaign running both on radio and television. On day after hearing it was guaranteed to re-grow hair I just had to have it. It was an expensive product consisting of a couple of shampoos and conditioners that was over $100 per month and was automatically shipped and billed each month. As time went by it became apparent that this miracle cure was not one of the best hairloss products, at least for me. Today after over 29 additional attempts things are looking up and my hairline is much how it was eight years ago.

In determining what are the best hairloss products for you it is important to gain an understanding of the primary cause of balding, eliminate any contributing factors, and be proactive rather than reactive. Let’s take each one of these contributing factors and briefly break them down.

The primary cause of balding is damage to the hair follicles by the androgen hormone dihydrotestosterone (DHT). In fact it is estimated that nine out of every ten cases of balding in men and one in four cases of balding in women are attributable to DHT accumulation deep within the hair follicle. This process causes follicles to shrink to a point where new hair growth becomes impossible, leading to an imbalance in the hair replacement cycle, thus causing gradual ongoing hair loss.

Most of us are guilty of contributing to our hair loss. We may not eat right, attempt crash weight loss programs or use inexpensive harsh shampoos that lather up great but actually damage both scalp and hair. We might be under great stress in our daily lives or feel the need to blow dry, curl, color, comb, and manipulate our hair to excess. All of the above factors can contribute to balding and make the job of even the best hairloss products more difficult.

Taking proactive action is perhaps the most important step in both reversing the balding process and maintaining your remaining hair. There is no better example of this than when looking at the research findings for minoxidil (Rogaine). Minoxidil is considered by many to be one of the very best hairloss products. It works by enlarging follicles, prolonging the growth phase, and stimulating resting hairs to grow. It slows the balding process in nine out ten instances but is only able to produce new growth in 3 out of ten instances. And even when successful in producing new growth often times the hair is fuzzy or fine.

What Next? Finding the best hairloss products  is no easy task. Nevertheless, there are currently a handful of hair re-growth products (specially formulated for both men and women) which have been proven effective both in blocking harmful hormones and bringing the all important dead hair follicles back to life. These specially formulated treatments can be used both as a preventative tool, starting before hair loss becomes severe, or after loss of hair has become noticeable. Whatever the level of balding or thinning you are experiencing these products could be just what is needed to overcome this latest life challenge.

Male Pattern Baldness Treatment Is Available Online

About Propecia

Propecia (generic name: Finasteride) is an FDA approved pill for treatment of male pattern baldness in men. Manufactured by pharmaceutical company Merck and Co. Propecia (finasteride) has been in use since 1997 and is currently one of the most prescribed pills for treating male pattern baldness. Propecia has been clinically proven as a medicine that helps increase hair growth and prevent further hair loss in men suffering from male pattern baldness.

What is male pattern baldness?

Male pattern baldness or androgenetic alopecia is one the most common cause of hair loss in men. In this condition, hair is lost in a well-defined pattern beginning above both temples. Hair also thins at the crown of the head. Male pattern baldness often progresses to partial or complete baldness in men.

Male pattern baldness is caused by the effect of the male sex hormone called testosterone. By an action of enzyme called 5-alpha reductase, testosterone is converted to dihydrotestosterone (DHT). When the level of the DHT goes above a certain level it acts on the hormone receptor on the hair follicle and produces weak, shorter hair. It also slows down hair production gradually depleting your stock of hair.

How Propecia (finasteride) works?

Finasteride – the active compound in Propecia belongs to a group of medicine called 5 alpha reductase inhibitors. Propecia works by blocking the enzyme, Type II 5 alpha-reductase and thereby inhibit the production of DHT. The DHT is the chief cause of male pattern baldness as it can shrink the hair follicle until it no longer produces visible hair. Regular use of Propecia keeps the production of DHT in check and therefore helps in stopping further hair loss and also assists in new hair growth.

How do I use Propecia?

Propecia (finasteride) pill is to be taken orally once a day, with or without food. The standard prescribed dosage of Propecia for male pattern baldness is 1mg tablet once a day. Ideally the dose should be taken regularly and at the same time everyday.

It takes about three months before the effect of Propecia is seen on hair growth. You must continue to use Propecia to maintain hair growth. Once you stop taking Propecia any gain in hair quantity is generally lost within 12 months. Please consult your doctor about the right dosage of Propecia finasteride medicine for you. Never decrease or exceed the dosage of Propecia on your own.

Propecia should not be used by women and children. Pregnant women or those who are planning to become pregnant should not even touch a Propecia tablet if it is broken or crushed.

What are Propecia (finasteride) side effects?

Propecia (finasteride) is a safe and well-tolerated drug but like other prescription medicines it does come with certain side effects. A small number of men have reported sexual side effects such as decreased desire for sex, difficulty in achieving an erection and a decrease in the amount of semen released during sex. Sexually related Propecia side effects go away when the medication is stopped.

Other Propecia side effects include allergic reactions including rash, itching, hives, and swelling of the lips and face, problems with ejaculation, breast tenderness and enlargement, and testicular pain. Please report to your doctor immediately if notice any changes in your breasts such as lumps, pain, or nipple discharge or if any of the side effects become bothersome.

Understanding Male Pattern Baldness

Male pattern baldness has affected men throughout history. Prior to the medical treatments available today men attempted to treat hair loss in a variety of ways, usually with trying to hide hair loss. Both Napoleon and Julius Caesar grew their hair long, and combed it forward. Others hid their hair loss with wigs and hats. Others believed in mixing animal ingredients together as a paste to treat their hair loss.

Unfortunately, no matter how we attempt to treat hair loss, there is still no cure. The medical term for male pattern baldness is Androgenetic Alopecia, which is the cause of 95% of hair loss. Alopecia is the medical term for hair loss. Androgenetic consists of two keywords: Androgen and Genetic.

Androgen consists of hormones that affect masculinity, such as testosterone. Genetic means the genes we get from either parent. As we age, our hair follicles will produce an enzyme, that when it combines with testosterone it produces DHT (dihydrotestosterone). DHT is what causes male pattern baldness.

What this simply means is that male hair loss is caused by hormones, genetics, and aging. This combination makes it difficult to find a cure for hair loss, although treatments are available.

There are several other causes of male hair loss, although they only represent 5% of hair loss in the population. Alopecia Areata is an autoimmune disorder which cases hair to fall out in random patches. Alopecia Totalis is total hair loss resulting from Alopecia Areata. Alopecia Universalis is hair loss over the entire body, which is also a form of Areata.

Traction Alopecia is hair loss that is caused by excessive tension on the hair (such as hair braiding). Telogen Effiuvium is temporary hair loss caused by stress. Anagem Effiuvium is hair loss resulting from medications.

By understanding the cause of hair loss, we are able to find a treatment that is right for our type of hair loss. Doctors and dermatologists can help determine our specific cause and can recommend a course of action.
