Each morning when you look in the mirror are you starting to notice that your hair is not as full as it used to be? Perhaps there is a tiny bald spot starting to form on the crown, or maybe a slight receding hair line is beginning to emerge? A first you think it may not be much to worry about, but your passive attitude starts to change as hair loss continues to get worse. You can take some comfort in knowing that this type of thinning hair in men is very common, affecting an estimated 40 million men in America alone.
The likely culprit behind your case of thinning hair in men is a hereditary, androgen driven hormone (DHT), condition commonly known as male pattern baldness/balding. The name in some ways is slightly misleading since the initial stages have more to do with thinning, along with a receding hair line than balding. Nevertheless, the condition is progressive and over time will likely result in the typical M shaped pattern with severe hair loss on the top of the head.
I know what you are feeling, after all I am one of those 40 million myself. But what makes me slightly different from many of the others is that I was able to recognize hair thinning in men as male pattern baldness early, took action almost immediately, and thus far have been able to successfully stave off the ravages of this condition.
For me the answer was a combinations of herbs, including saw palmetto and nettle root taken orally, vitamin B12 supplementation, along with topical minoxidil applied twice daily. The good news is that it is possible to halt or slow thinning hair in men causes by male pattern baldness. The bad news is once treatment is stopped all new growth will be lost, and balding will resume. For many of us this is an unacceptable outcome for others they may reach a point where the hassles and expense of keeping your hair simply become too much. At this point most men just shave their heads and are done with it.
In summary, there are answers for thinning hair in men but they come with a price, and must be adopted before balding becomes too severe. Scientific research estimates that a combination of topical minoxidil and herbal oral supplements will slow male pattern baldness in nine out ten cases but will only restore lost hair in about 3 out ten cases.
What Next? There are currently a handful of specially formulated for hair thinning in men caused by male pattern baldness which have been proven effective both in blocking harmful hormones and bringing the all important dead hair follicles back to life. These specially formulated treatments can be used both as a preventative tool, starting before hair loss becomes severe, or after loss of hair has become noticeable. Whatever the level of balding or thinning you are experiencing these products could be just what is needed to overcome this latest life challenge.

One of the causes of hair loss is as a result of stress. Our body has a in-built system to help protect us from danger. At the slightest hint of danger to us our body reacts, our heart will start to pound and our breathing becomes more rapid. The muscles of our body tense and we become much more alert. If the threat is perceived by us to be real we will either stay and fight the danger, or run.
All of us have experienced this to some degree. Minor non-threatening to life events such as these examples, as a child running or ducking away from an annoyed or cross parent for fear of reprimand. Or fleeing from someone following us or by a threatening advance of a creature such as a dog, snake or spider. Cartoonists have often depicted a woman standing on a chair with a mouse sitting on the ground looking up at them. Jumping onto the chair is a physical reaction to the perceived danger, no matter how small it may be. This is known as the ‘flight’ response.
The response is triggered by a series of events happening in our body commencing at the base of our brain where our hypothalamus sits. At first sense of danger or threat the hypothalamus releases nerve impulses and chemicals which in turn stimulate many of our glands, one of them being the adrenal glands. The adrenaline is pumped from the adrenal glands into the bloodstream to prepare the body for the maximum effort to flee the danger.
The heart rate increases allowing more blood flow and oxygen to the brain and muscles. The rate of breathing increases to ensure our body has an adequate oxygen supply and the liver delivers sugars to fuel the muscles in preparedness.
In order for the muscles, lung and brain have sufficient blood flow the adrenal hormones flowing from the adrenal gland also restrict the flow of blood to areas of the body not vital to the flight response. These areas are the intestines, skin and scalp.
Our bodies cannot differentiate between different types of threat so will act the same way in a life or death situation or to non-life threatening events in our daily life. Receiving a Final Reminder for an unpaid account in the mailbox and knowing there is no funds to remedy the situation can be a trigger. The threat of losing employment, or the threat of a reprimand affecting your status at work can see the body react. A faltering relationship or troublesome family life, ongoing medical issues for a close family member, divorce, death, homelessness or the threat of this occurring, all cause the body to prepare to take ‘flight’.
It is when the body continually undergoes the stresses of daily life and continually triggers the ‘flight’ responses, the areas which experience blood restriction begin to suffer and hair loss can occur. Our hair needs an effective supply of blood and nutrients in order for the hair follicles to be maintained.
It is important to try and relieve the stress in our lives to not only maintain our general health but to maintain a healthy head of hair. If you have had a shedding of hair or are experiencing noticeable thinning of your hair it is important to seek further advice or treatment. It really is hard enough trying to cope with the stresses of everyday living without the added burden of hair loss triggering further stress and further hair loss.

What is the cause of female hair loss? Losing hair is something most of us will experience at some stage of our lives. A proportion of people will experience hair loss early in their life due to genetic influences or hormonal imbalance. For some or a large percentage of us it will come as we age.
It is important to know we experience a normal shedding of hair as we can lose some one hundred or so strands on days. It is when more than this number is shed it becomes obvious something of a more serious nature is occurring. It is also important to know what can cause the loss because it is with this knowledge we can better cope and deal with the problem.
Here we will take a look at one of the causes of female hair loss, hormone imbalance.
Hormones are extremely important to a woman. They have an effect on a woman’s emotions, her appearance and general health. Women produce progesterone and estrogen. Testosterone is also produced by women but for the majority of women, to a lesser degree than men. All three are required in an adequate and balanced amount in order for a woman to main good health and well-being.
It is when a woman’s estrogen level is reduced or lost an imbalance occurs. The testosterone a woman produces can increase and convert to DHT or dihydrotestosterone. This occurs with the help of an enzyme known as 5-alpha-reductase. DHT causes the hair follicles to shrink as membranes in the scalp become thicker and less elastic. As a result this restricts blood flow and causes the hair to wither and fall and is not replaced by a new strand.
In females there is a general thinning of the hair over the head. This is a different loss to those experienced by men where a receding of the forehead or thinning of the crown occurs.
If you are experiencing or have noticed your hair is thinning it is important to seek out the cause of female hair loss. Happily, for many sufferers there is the potential for re-growth. So go ahead and check out my website for further helpful information and advice. I know you do not want, or need to be a sufferer any longer

We experience a variety of emotions from our infancy until our passing. One of the emotions difficult to come to terms with is grief. We can grieve the loss of a close family member or friend, the loss of a job or home. The loss of anything important to us is a grief trigger. So imagine the grief and the emotions stemming from this, women with hair loss experience.
Flick through any womens’ magazine and you will find full-page advertisements for hair products. Often these advertisements feature attractive women with their long tresses gleaming under the light. They often feature the women next to a handsome man or in luxurious surroundings giving an impression to the reader one must have beautiful hair in order to attract a partner or be successful in life.
The initial discovery hair loss is occurring can be a shock. One looks at the lost strands on their pillowcase or tangled in their hairbrush or comb. Is it mine? It cannot be! Disbelief and denial send them checking and re-checking the mirror to determine if this is indeed true and is really happening to them.
Many tears can be shed as these women begin the mourning of their loss. This is not only their hair loss they are grieving for but the changes to their life their loss has created or aspects of their life they believe will be altered. The grieve for the physical change to their body and their look.
Will my partner or husband still find me attractive?
Will people point or stare at me when I am in public?
What will my friends and family say?
Some women may take to covering their head with a hat or scarf in the vain hope their problem will go away or as a quick fix. Others will withdraw from social activities to save their embarrassment or because of fear of ridicule.
When women come to the realisation their problem is not going to be fixed overnight they start seeking a realistic answer to their hair loss. This can be by searching for products or treatments available to them or by seeking medical advice.
To those whose baldness is permanent, many will come to an acceptance of their change of appearance and move forward baring their head proudly to the world. Others will continually search for an answer or option to restore their loss and as a result will take longer to emerge from their grief.

About ten days ago, I was in San Diego watching a Chargers football game at Qualcomm Stadium. After the third quarter, I met a fortyish man sitting behind me, maybe in his late thirties, who told me that he had undergone a hair transplant procedure.
He confided in me and told me that after six days following surgery, things seemed to be healing and going A-OK. But, he said, last night, while in the shower washing his hair, he noticed hair follicles fell out: seven of them to be exact. And he was quite concerned (and for good reason) and said he planned on making an appointment with his hair restoration doctor to find out if there’s a problem.
The man, who seemed to be a rabid Chargers fan (he had a lightning bolt tattoo on his shoulder), told me he had his scalp stapled. It didn’t look infected or have a lot of inflammation, but it was really sensitive, meaning that he felt pain each time he touched that area of his head on something or just swiped his head past a pillow or movie theater seat. In addition, with not much shock, the pain level had increased as he had taken less anti-inflammatory drugs.
After the game, he asked me: Are there any off-the-shelf medications I’d recommend? Whether topical or oral drugs, it didn’t seem matter to him.
My reply to him: After some time passes, the pain and tenderness from the closed donor wound will decrease. After about four days, you might feel some pain in the donor area while on medication. If it happens to be that the transplant is becoming more sensitive, pay your doctor a visit and he’ll take a look at your donor area to make sure its healing properly.
